A combined project between three of us from which we created Ciro; a stool of suspended panels and intersecting beams, all layered around a central lamp. The Macrocarpa frame slots together using an innovative lap joint system developed to provide structural continuation to each junction.
On the extension of each junction hang panels of Rimu, the panels are attached using dowel joints allowing for easy removal and reattachment. The frame extends through chiselled cut outs in the base to become feet, raising Ciro decidedly off the ground. The panels themselves are constructed using lap joints, giving strength to their delicate narrowness. In the centre is suspended a box wrapped in linen. The linen is sewn onto each side of its Rimu frame before the box is located together with dowels. No fastenings or fixings are used in Ciro's construction, only these collected joinery methods.
Ciro appears in a state of poised explosion. In its layered depth, it has visual absorption from any angle. As you walk around the stool there is a fluttering exchange between its inside and out. Sections of light can be seen to pass right through the composition while colours, patterns and textures meet and give way to one another.
